About

About Wellsfarm:
Wellsfarm is a family owned and operated dairy farm near Peterborough, Ontario, Canada. It is named after the town in the Netherlands where the family immigrated from. Our herd consists of ~120 animals, made up of purebred Holsteins and some purebred Brown Swiss. We strive for top quality milk and are regular recipients of quality milk awards. Over the past several years we have spent a great deal of time researching and planning our new dairy barn and all of its systems. This blog was started to chronicle its progress.

About the Author/Operator(s):
My name is Niels van Beek, and I am the 2nd generation of our family to operate Wellsfarm (5th generation when you include the generations that dairy farmed in the Netherlands). I studied Biochemistry at University of Ottawa for 2 years before I decided that dairy farming was my passion. I went on to complete a Diploma in Agriculture at Kemptville College, and then a Bachelor of Science in Animal Sciences at the University of Guelph, focusing on Dairy Sciences. I am an active director in our local Holstein Club, as well as a recent graduate of the Gay-Lea Cooperative Leadership Program. My parents have also been active members in many local organizations.
